A bond whose interest is exempt from Federal income tax. Municipal Bonds are frequently called Tax Exempt Bonds. Tax exempts trade at lower yields than taxable bonds because of the tax benefit of the exemption. Some Municipal Bonds are not exempt from state taxes, and the rules vary from state to state.
